Debug and Trace Support of NVIDIA DRIVE Orin™

Publishing Date: February 2, 2023

Hoehenkirchen, Germany—February 01, 2023—Lauterbach, a leading manufacturer of cutting-edge development tools for embedded systems, today announced that its TRACE32® development tools now support the NVIDIA DRIVE Orin™ system-on-a-chip (SoC). This includes simultaneous JTAG debugging of the CPU cores as well as non-intrusive CPU-trace capture for functional safety certification.

NVIDIA DRIVE Orin™ is a central computer for intelligent vehicles, delivering a massive amount of computing performance (254 trillion operations per second) for highly automated and autonomous-driving applications. Lauterbach’s TRACE32® tools supplement the NVIDIA Nsight developer tools suite. While NVIDIA Nsight focuses on application-level development for multi-core CPU and GPU-accelerated applications, Lauterbach’s TRACE32® enables hardware-accelerated debugging and real-time tracing, which is essential for safety-critical applications.

TRACE32® tools consist of the universal PowerView debugging and tracing software as well as debug and trace accelerator modules. While Lauterbach’s intelligent PowerDebug modules provide the highest available download speeds and smallest response times for efficient debugging and test automation, PowerTrace real-time trace modules provide full insight into what the DRIVE Orin CPU cores are doing without impacting its real-time performance. For system profiling or safety certification, trace analysis — including code coverage measurements — is essential. In other use cases, it supports fast, safe and reliable deployment of embedded designs.

To enable the customer developing both application and real-time control software, TRACE32® enables simultaneous debugging and tracing of Arm® Cortex®-A application processors and real time cores, which often act as decision makers, or voters, in critical driving situations, where functions must be calculated according to the ISO 26262 ASIL-D safety level, and host controllers for in-vehicle communication.

The NVIDIA DRIVE Orin™ SoC is the ideal solution for powering autonomous driving capabilities, confidence views, digital clusters and AI cockpits. The scalable DRIVE Orin™ product family lets developers build, scale and use one development investment across an entire fleet, from level 2+ systems all the way to level 5 fully autonomous vehicles.
